July 26, 2022

Jakarta, July 26, 2022 – Indonesian film producer and popular industry leader Linda Gozali was presented with the Motion Picture Association (MPA) Asia Pacific Copyright Educator (A.C.E.) Award yesterday at a special ceremony hosted during the Script to Screen 2022 film workshop. The film workshop is presented by the MPA and the Indonesian Producers Association (APROFI) and supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Presenting the Award, Edward Neubronner, MPA Senior Vice President Regional Operations for the Asia Pacific, said, “Linda Gozali is a passionate advocate for her fellow filmmakers. As busy as she is with her own film production work, she always finds time to look out for the interests of her colleagues. Linda has joined us to help host numerous film workshops and seminars, where she voices the need for strong copyright and effective enforcement of creative rights. We are delighted to come together with the Indonesian film industry and celebrate her important contribution.”

Mr. Hilmar Farid, Director General, Ministry of Education and Culture, said, “Linda Gozali is a true leader of Indonesia’s screen community and has played an important role helping to elevate Indonesia’s profile on the global stage. These are exciting times for our film industry. Our filmmakers are being more widely recognized for their work, and international streaming services are producing local series of a very high quality made by Indonesians. There is much of value that we need to protect, and Linda Gozali is at the vanguard of this important work.”

Attending the special presentation, Mr. Anom Wibowo, Director of Investigation and Dispute Resolution at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property and Head of the IP Task Force, said, “Linda is a committed leader for Indonesia’s screen community, and with her dedication, energy, and resourcefulness – a great example to other filmmakers and film executives around the region. We applaud her work in raising awareness of the value of screen content and her strong commitment to the growth and success of the Indonesian film and TV industry.”

Congratulating Ms. Gozali on the Award, Andrew Sunshine, President of The Film Expo Group, said, “We have admired your strong commitment to the growth and success of the Indonesian film and televisionindustry. You have advocated for a robust copyright framework to support the interests of filmmakers, supported important content protection efforts, and spoken at events around the region to help educate others about the need to value and protect the work of the creative community. This work has not gone unnoticed, and we are glad to take this moment to honour your work.”

Accepting the Award, Ms. Gozali said, “It is a huge honour for me to receive this award but let me tell you that it is not just my sole effort that has brought me here — the strong support I have received from the Gozali Arya family, from APROFI, my fellow filmmakers and the MPA made this all possible. Let this award be a reminder of all the hard work that we have collectively put into protecting and raising the bar for screen content made in this part of the world, and let it inspire us to achieve more success in the future.”

Ms. Gozali was due to receive the MPA A.C.E. Award at the December 2019 edition of CineAsia in Hong Kong before the event was cancelled due to escalating violence in the territory. Yesterday’s special presentation was made at the opening of the Script to Screen 2022 Film Workshop, which features a masterclass from Francis Smith, an experienced showrunner and partner at IFA Media. Linda Gozali Biography

Linda Gozali is a film producer of MAGMA Entertainment. After spending 25 years in the Capital Markets, Linda teamed up with her brother, Charles Gozali, to expand MAGMA Entertainment in pursuant of her overdue passion as a film producer. She follows in the footsteps of her father and founder of Garuda Film, the legendary, Hendrick Gozali. In the second half of 2016, Indonesia began to come into the limelight by simultaneously exerting lucrative box office growth and expanding its local content market share. Linda recognized this opportunity to recapitalize IP content from Garuda Film as well as MAGMA’s very own by forming up partnerships and collaborations across Asia in pursuit of global achievements, financial harvest and respectable recognition. In the year 2020, Linda and Charles proved that the show must go on, bravely daring themselves to produce a culturally loaded romcom featuring Indonesian music phenomenon, Didi Kempot, the titled film, “Sobat Ambyar” (also known as “The Heartbreak Club”) despite a challenging year of Covid-19. By January 2021, “Sobat Ambyar” was successfully featured as the first Indonesian movie released worldwide on Netflix and was fondly praised by public and film critics. And just before 2020 concluded, MAGMA kicked off “QODRAT”, as a new breed of Indonesian supernatural fantasy, while preparing the upcoming productions: an Indonesian female superhero movie as an initial project to a bigger franchise, as well as a remake of MAGMA’S renowned Cinematic IP “Perempuan Dalam Pasungan/A Woman Shackled”, which won The 1981 Best Picture in the Festival Film Indonesia (the most prestigious film award in Indonesia). Finally, MAGMA is also preparing for an international collaboration with a respected Korean producer, Mr. Choi Yoon, the former Director of Busan Film Commission. This would be for an action flick based on the real one stop criminal activities in Medan – North Sumatra titled “Kampung Kubur/The Graveyard Zone”.
